Get to know Sonja Wittmann, founder of Finca Renacer Costa Rica.
Welcome to our sanctuary in the heart of Costa Rica, where pure nature, sustainable building and survival adventure meet. I was born in Germany in 1963, I am a happy mother of two children and a loving grandmother. I am a naturopath and have worked in Germany independently in my practice for 30 years. I studied herbal medicine, Bach Flower Remedies, homeopathy, foot reflexology and dark field microscopy.
I am an outdoor enthusiast and experienced survival teacher. My vision is to protect and preserve ancient skills which we inherited from our ancestors, keeping them alive by passing them on to the next generation. My goal is to reach the hearts and minds of those ready to rediscover their power and reconnect with Mother Earth. My life is filled with gratitude and I am excited to share that spirit with you.
I was born in 1964 in Costa Rica. I started working with bamboo when I was seventeen. At the age of twenty-four I spent some time in Europe. I moved to Belgium with my family and immersed in the life of the Belgians. At the same time I gained plenty of new experience in construction. In France I had the opportunity to give courses in building bamboo furniture.
I am a natural building master, teaching bamboo construction in Europe and Costa Rica. I am the founder of Bamboo School Costa Rica (www.bambooschoolcostarica.com), an organization dedicated to teaching people how to build sustainable and durable structures using bamboo and other natural materials.
The school offers a variety of workshops including an apprenticeship program which goes beyond hands-on learning by offering a deeper connection to nature and local culture.
I am a passionate advocate for sustainable natural building. I believe that building with natural materials is an important way to reduce our carbon footprint and protect the environment. I know, that natural building can be an effective way to help communities become more self-sufficient and resilient.
I developed innovative techniques for working with this sustainable and durable material and designed specialized tools for working with bamboo, such as handmade knives, saws, hatchets and chisels.
